Craig Olson - 18 Melodies For The Barbarian Flute, extended till Nov 18th
Janet Kurnatowski is pleased to present "18 Melodies for the Barbarian Flute", recent work by Craig Olson, from October 12th - November 11th, 2012. This will be Olson's first solo exhibition with the gallery. Please join the artist for an opening reception on Friday, October 12th from 7-9pm.
Olson's handmade wooden panels serve as intermediaries. These objects of creative imagination ask the viewer to perceive an experience born of everyday reality, a reality that might otherwise be ignored. He states, "This group of paintings is offered as a series of melodies, a poetics of the unconveyed. Each piece a thought, an invocation to what D.H. Lawrence called "an engagement with the ancient science," which comes as much from the heart and body as from the head. Engagements running through the body and brain, each having its own separate existence, each combining with the others to make up a complete state of mind."
Olson received his MFA from Rutgers in 2006. In New York he has shown at Edward Thorpe Gallery, Allegra La Viola, John Davis, Sideshow Gallery and Denise Bibro Fine Art. In 2010, he attended the Farpath Foundation Residency in Dijon, France. For more information or images please contact the gallery.
