Shane McAdams - Overwhelming Fornication
September 12 - October 12
Opening reception: Friday, September 12th, 7-9pm

Janet Kurnatowski Gallery is pleased to commence its 10th season with an exhibition of new paintings by Shane McAdams, “Overwhelming Fornication”. This will be McAdams’ third solo exhibition with the gallery. The show runs from September 12 – October 12th with an opening reception on Friday September 12th from 7-9pm.
The show continues McAdams' exploration of industrial and mass-produced materials such as ballpoint pen, resin, styrofoam and Elmer's glue, which are subjected to basic processes to create paintings that are both part of the Nature's underlying logic and composed of elements that threaten it. His work also addresses the history of landscape painting as both the "picture window" and the "petri dish", issues that have attended painting through modernism and beyond. This body of work also confronts the horizontal/vertical duality in relation to the tradition of landscape painting.
“That land has continued to be a touchstone in my work, both as a symbol of process and as a source of content. I will always marvel over how the incremental effects of time can create something both more structured and unique than I may ever make with my own hands. It has forced me to consider how my production as an artist relates to the actual source of inspiration, to the land itself.”
McAdams received his MFA from Pratt in 2005. His work has been exhibited in numerous shows, nationally and internationally. In New York he has shown at Marlborough Gallery, Allegra La Viola, Pierogi, Kunsthalle Galapagos, Denise Bibro, Printed Matter and Caren Golden Fine Art to name a few. He recently had exhibitions at Elizabeth Leach Gallery, OR, Allis Museum of Art, WI, Scream Gallery, London UK, and Storefront, Bushwick. He has upcoming solo exhibitions at Museum of Wisconsin Art, WI and The Overture Center for the Arts, Madison, WI. For more more information or images please contact Janet Kurnatowski.
